A Warm Welcome
In the Harbour House, we are all about the welcome. As a second generation business, we strive to provide the customer with a welcome that is warm, friendly and something that will set the tone for their visit and always be fondly embedded in their memories.
With the atmospheric backdrop of the imposing Mourne Mountains, we hope our guest’s first impression of their time with us is as spectacular as the views.
A building is nothing without its people and we ensure our team are all selected for great attitude, a focus on customer service and a friendly manner. Staff are chosen who have a great ‘can do’ attitude, are proud of their job and primarily, just want to treat our guests really well. Through regular training, we reiterate the importance of ‘a home from home’ and try to meet and where possible, exceed our guest expectations daily.
Our Staff
A fantastic experience is what we strive to deliver, achieved through regular communications with the team, multi-skill training, food tastings and meeting the supplier events. We want our staff to grow and develop so we regularly have team meetings where they can offer suggestions for improvements or any training that they want to acquire.
We have produced great ambassadors who have a great knowledge of our product, menus and the local area. Regular trips to foodie markets and new restaurant openings provide great team building opportunities, where fun is definitely on the menu and loyalty from the team develops and grows.
A warm comfortable room with all modern amenities is a given and we receive great feedback on our breakfasts. Daily baked fresh wheaten accompanies great Ulster staples using a range of quality, local produce.
Local Business
We are a small local business and one of our focuses is to support other small local businesses. Working with local suppliers in such a small community is vital. Long standing relationships have been nurtured, many of our suppliers are regular customers and great advocates of our business.
Competing in such a busy town, it is imperative that our menus are seasonal and reflect the fantastic fresh produce readily available on our doorstep. Owners and Chefs have a great appetite for showcasing the fruits of the sea and our flexibility allows our menus to offer freshly caught seafood and shellfish specials daily.
Artisan & Craft Producers
Craft beers and the rise of the gin market have changed how we look at purchasing and the choices we provide, while delivering to the newly educated and varied palettes of our guests. Bar staff have visited local craft breweries and been trained by these artisan producers and our sales have reflected their growing expertise.
Within the Harbour House, our guests regularly comment that the view is all. We have listened and reacted by investing in a great outdoor eating space that maximises the impact of the imposing Mourne Mountains and Irish Sea views. Our guests can enjoy all day dining or a casual drink on the deck and relish the best that Co. Down has to offer.
